Local attractions
Ty Pren Bach is situated below Foel Cwmcerwyn the highest of the Preseli Hills and the highest point in Pembrokeshire. It is the ideal base to explore one of Wales’ most beautiful and magical landscapes. You can walk up Foel Cwmcerwyn directly from the chalet or drive a short distance to the ancient Golden Road and climb Foel Eryr.
The Tafarn Sinc, just a mile away at Rosebush, is a community pub of traditional Welsh charm, in which you can enjoy excellent food and real ale. In Rosebush, there is the Old Post Office and Pant Mawr cheese shop where farmhouse cheeses made from locally produced milk can be sampled. In the vicinity there is also the Pantmaenog forest, which has 12 km of tracks for walking, cycling and horse riding.
A short drive away
The beautiful and dramatic Cwm Gwaun is only a few miles drive. This valley, in the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, is famous for its woodland walks, streams and wild life, and you may see otters, dippers, buzzards and red kites. Other places of interest include Carn Ingli a hill overlooking Newport with prehistoric remains, Castell Henllys iron age village, Bedd Arthur or Arthur’s grave and the stunning Pembrokeshire Coastal Path.
Wildlife
Numerous species of birds can be seen from the land surrounding Ty Pren Bach, for example, red kites, buzzards and owls frequently soar above the chalet. At the coast look out for porpoises between Poppit Sands and Strumble Head and dolphins between Poppit and Fishguard. They sometimes swim into Fishguard Harbour and Newport Bay. Seal pups can be spotted on the beaches nearby in late Autumn.
Music
Music lovers can enjoy the Fishguard Folk Festival at the end of May, the International Music Festival in July and the Aberjazz Festival in August. Nearby the Tafarn Sinc and the Bluestone Brewery regularly hold live music events.
Eating out
The Community run pub, The Tafarn Sinc offers excellent pub food or you could try one of the numerous cafés, pubs and restaurants at the coastal village of Newport, and the market town of Narberth. Maenclochog also has its its own café – the Caffi’r Sgwar.
